Jennifer Cortright, DVM
Dr. Jennifer Cortright graduated from the University of Illinois in 2000 and joined the Animal Clinic in Sussex in 2009. Dr. Jennifer enjoys soft tissue surgery, dentistry and a special interest in ultrasound. She became certified in small animal ultrasound through completion of the University of Illinois’ Executive Veterinary Program in 2012. The Cortrights share their Wauwatosa home with their cats and look forward to a day soon when they will again welcome a big dog.
Mackenzie Vermey, DVM
For her entire life, Dr. Mackenzie Vermey has always wanted to be a veterinarian. She was born and raised in New Berlin, WI and from an early age expressed an interest in anything pertaining to animals and science. She received her doctorate of veterinary medicine from graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine in 2012. As of January 2017 she has become the new owner and medical director of Animal Clinic in Sussex. She brings with her 18 years of experience in the veterinary profession. Although she will tell you she absolutely loves every aspect of her career, some of her professional interests include ophthalmology, internal medicine, and surgery.
Dr. Mackenzie and her husband, Jason, share their home with three coonhounds- Jethro, Ellie, and June, a cat named Larry, and her horse Gaston. Her interests outside of work are running with her dogs, camping, hiking, kayaking, swimming and horseback riding. She is very excited to provide the highest quality of medicine to her patients and looks forward to the future!
Pauline Schroeder, DVM
Dr. Pauline Schroeder graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison in 2001 and practiced for 14 years in an AAHA accredited practice in Iron Mountain, MI. She joined our team in July 2015 and brings a wide repertoire of experiences in veterinary medicine, including sled dog care and veterinary spinal manipulative therapy. She was raised in our local area and is happy to be returning to her family farm, along with her three horses.
Technical Support Team
April has been in the veterinary field for over 10 years and has been with the Animal Clinic in Sussex since 2006. She enjoys caring for pets and educating clients about the best care for their companions. Her hobbies include horseback riding, sports, and especially taking her dogs on long hikes.
Denise Schmidt, CVT
Denise has been a certified technician for over 20 years and has been working part time with the Animal Clinic in Sussex since 2004. She enjoys assisting the doctors with patients in the exam rooms and educating clients on preventive care. When not working here, you will find her working on her family dairy farm and spending time with family. She has 2 dogs, and a herd of dairy cows and calves.
Jen has been with the Animal Clinic in Sussex since 2007. She has been in the field of veterinary medicine over 15 years. She enjoys educating clients on weight management and the importance of proper nutrition for their pets. When not working she enjoys reading and spending time with family.
Jerusha Chucka, CVT
Jerusha has worked in the animal field for 10 years, ranging from shelter work to specialty practice. She graduated from the Madison Area Technical College last year and became a certified technician. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her fiancé (husband in June!) and Dachshund Harriet. They love spending time outdoors; especially fishing and hiking. She has also been dancing since she was three years old, and now teaches hip-hop and jazz at her family’s dance studio.
Shelly Wisialowski, CVT
Shelly has worked in the veterinary field for over 10 years and has been a certified veterinary technician for 6 years. She has experience in emergency and critical care, as well as the diverse care of day practice, where she has found the most enjoyment. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, 2 cats and the love of her life, her border collie Jack. In her spare time she likes to go camping and hiking together and also volunteering her time with various rescue groups.
Keena graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at Gateway Technical College in May 2017. Keena enjoys preventative care and forming bonds with clients and their pets. When not working, she especially loves taking her Rottweiler mix, Rocky, to the dog park. She also likes spending time outdoors, hiking and relaxing at her family lake home.
Amanda has worked in the veterinary field for two years. She graduated from Milwaukee Career College with a Veterinary Technician degree in November 2016. She loves all aspects of veterinary medicine but has a special interest in cardiology.
She has been with Animal Clinic in Sussex since July 2017. In her spare time she enjoys going on vacation, spending time with her dog, family and friends.
Client Service Specialists
Michele started working with the Animal Clinic in Sussex in 2004. Sharing the love of animals with our clients is what brings her to work. Her hobbies include spending time with her family and cats, walking her dogs, and reading.
Nancy started with the Animal Clinic in Sussex in 2006. She enjoys talking to clients and snuggling the pets. Her hobbies include cooking, fishing, camping, boating and dancing. She has one dog, Georgia.
Wendy had been a long client before she joined Animal Clinic in Sussex in 2004. She enjoys helping owners and their pets. Her hobbies include reading, crocheting and making jewelry. She also enjoys spending time with her dogs.
Kim Walker has been gooming for 11 years and is a graduate of the School of Professional Pet Grooming, graduating in 2007. She also has a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with a minor in Sports Nutrition. She offers grooming for a vast variety of breeds and many different lengths of haircuts, as well as styles. Her emphasis is on quality and she puts forth maximum effort to give your furry family member the best haircut possible! She has a 13 year old Siberian Husky named Samuel who means the world to her and her husband Chad. She enjoys spending time together as a family, especially going on walks and/or hikes. She is also very devoted to fitness and health and has experience with long distance running and is actively training in Olympic weight lifting.
Batsy is our clinic cat, mascot and all-around snuggle buddy. He enjoys greeting patients and clients, playing with his feather toy, begging for food and flirting with all the ladies.
