Pets get fleas from the environment, which has been contaminated by eggs falling off other animals carrying adult fleas. Fleas are commonly found outdoors, in shaded areas near trees and bushes. Fleas can be difficult to control. It is extremely important to treat ALL the pets in the household, and as well as the environment. There are many products available. For our client’s pets, we recommend year round use of Sentinel for prevention. When adult fleas are noted we use Capstar and Frontline Plus. In the home, it is important to vacuum the area and dispose of the vacuum bag outside immediately afterwards. The use of a premise spray may be recommended.
