WHAT VACCINATIONS DOES A CAT NEED? AT WHAT AGE?

FVRCP– stands for Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia virus (Distemper)

Kittens: Start at 6-8 weeks of age, and receive a series of 2-4 boosters, every 3-4 weeks until 16 weeks old.

Adults: Give 2 vaccines 3-4 weeks apart, in one year, then every 3 years or as indicated by risk assessment.

RABIES

We recommend all cats be vaccinated due to the public health risk. The first vaccine is given at 16 weeks of age or older, then revaccinate annually.

FELINE LEUKEMIA

We recommend ALL cats be tested for FeLV/FIV when they enter a new home, the test is then repeated in 3-6 months, and at any time when a chronic illness occurs or the cat is at risk due to lifestyle.

We recommend that ALL kittens receive the first vaccine at 8 weeks of age or older, receive a booster 2-4 weeks later, then repeat the vaccine at the first annual appointment.

Continued annual revaccination is recommended if cats are at risk due to lifestyle.
